LOCK-STREET: The beginning of 2012

The Beast of the NFC East

It has begun. Although it can be slightly disheartening to wave goodbye to another summer as we prepare for another harsh winter, there is so much to look forward to. The fall is better than all other seasons: the temperature is bearable, the wilting of the leaves which provide an enchanting visceral experience is also a metaphor for death being beautiful (Beauty type shit), Halloween is an underrated holiday in my opinion, and right now is the best time to be a sports fan. Sure, this summer provided us with another climactic, record-breaking Summer Olympics, but as this is over we are proceeding to the undoubtedly best season in sports.

Currently, the last leg of the marathon-like tumultuous baseball season is providing us with some epic underdog runs. Several small market teams are rising above the ashes in order to vie for one of the most competitive spots in sports, the playoffs (Oakland A’s, Baltimore Orioles, Tampa Bay Rays, Cincinnati Reds, Pittsburgh Pirates, Washington Nationals). As such, the sports world is heating up. Not only is there an intense baseball playoff run occurring, but finally football is back.

With College Football already beginning last week, it is apparent that this fall will be special. Ok, maybe my prognostication that this football season (College and NFL) will exceed any of the previous years is simply based around excitement more than facts. I mean, it is a huge shocker that an SEC school has regained the top spot in the polls (Alabama could have probably beaten the Dolphins last week), that USC’s offense is lights out, the ACC will be won by VT, GT, or FSU, and PSU is going to have one helluva shitty season. I also want you to be aware that I do not own a crystal ball and I if did I would be a billionaire.

While I am mentioning my inability to foresee the future, I thought it would be a great time to discuss my inhuman ability to discuss sports gambling locks. Lock-Street is back and better than ever. Please note that I am not liable if you lose all of your money, sell your house, get divorced, and end up selling your body for crack rock. I only take responsibility if you win. You might as well call me Goldman Sachs.

NFL-Opening Night

New York Giant (-3.5) s vs. Dallas Cowboys and o45

So tonight begins the NFL season with the Super Bowl Champion New York Giants taking on America’s team, the Dallas Cowboys. I’m not really sure why Dallas is still receiving such a glamorous title as they've been a disappointment over the last several years and their ultra-conservative city is far from the pulse of the common man. Regarding the Giants, it’s amazing the lack of hype a Super Bowl champion team has received. Sure, they squeaked into the playoffs and were not the best team in the league by any stretch of the imagination last year, but they understood when to get hot and now are standing at the top of the podium.

Honestly, this is a pretty difficult one to begin the year with since usually Super Bowl teams start off hot. When the G-men won the Super Bowl a few years back, they went 11-1 then only to endure NRs spokesman Plaxico Burress’s fun with a gun. Also, are we going see last season Eli, or this year’s preseason Eli as he has looked dreadful thus far. I think he is going to have monster numbers with the help of Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz accompanied by their new weapon in Martellus Bennett. Sure, their TE only had 38 catches last year, but that was because they had a bum in Ballard. The Cowboys though, signed stud cornerback Brandon Carr and drafted Morris Claiborne as the 6th overall pick. Now frail Romo has his own weapons in Dez Bryant, Miles Austin, and potentially Jason Witten whenever he gets fully healthy. That said, both o-lines are soft.

The Giant’s defense is pretty solid. Their front 7 includes Justin Tuck, Osi, and JPP and have a solid secondary in a healthy Philips and Rolle. Their corners are suspect though. They should be able to beat Romo down but, honestly, I still think Romo gets too much heat. The guy makes plays, plus they have in my opinion the better run game. I think their line is overall better and DeMarco Murray is a better runner at this point than Ahmad Bradshaw.

This game should be fun, but I think playing at home in the season opener with the Super Bowl title still looming, the Giants will prevail.

Betting

Giants -3.5 and the over.

Final Score-31-27-Gmen Win
